La storia si articola in diverse vicende che si intrecciano tra loro creando un unico grande filone. Ogni personaggio ha una sua peculiarità e dei suoi antefatti che lo rendono unico ed essenziale per un andamento coerente e cronologico dei fatti. Prima fra tutte, poichè unica protagonista femminile, Elena Gilbert. Giovane, bella, gentile e desiderata da tutti i ragazzi della sua scuola, Elena è una diciassettenne reduce di un terribile incidente sstradale in cui perde entrambi i genitori, restando in affidamento, così, alla zia Jenna, nel film o zia Judith nel libro, insieme alla sua sorellina di quattro anni Margaret sostituita con un fratello adolescente di nome Jeremy nell’adattamento audiovisivo. Nel film, però, Elena non è bionda, occhi chiari e viso angelico come la scrittrice stessa ci narra nel libro, essa è impersonificata da Nina Dobrev, una provocante ungherese mora, occhi scuri ed estremamente sexy. Ciò che stravolge completamente la vita della giovane fanciulla è l’incontro con l’affascinante e tenebroso Stefan Salvatore, un vampiro di 145 anni con l’aspetto di un liceale, trasferitosi a Fell’s Church chiamata Mystic Falls nel film, spinto dal forte desiderio di conoscere Elena, copia perfetta del suo storico amore, Katherine Pierce. Quest’ultima, anche se appare alla fine della prima stagione televisiva nonchè nel terzo libro dell’intera saga The Vampire Diaries, è fondamentale poichè nel 1864 trasforma in vampiri il giovane stefan e suo fratello, Demon, dopo averli completamente stregati d’amore. I due, infatti, vivono in costaante competizione e lotta, prima per la mano della bella Katherine e poi, dopo 150 anni, per l’amore di elena, sua doppelganger. Elena, però, incontra i due fratelli, dopo aver appena concluso una dolce storia d’amore adolescenziale con Matt Donovan, che nel film rispecchia esattamente la descrizione originaria fatta nel testo da Lisa Smith: biondo, occhi chiari, ingenuo e atletico. Matt è perdutamente innamorato di Elena tanto da rispettare ogni sua scelta pur di non perderla, come il suo fidanzamento con Stefan. Egli è uno sportivo e condivide la sua passione per il football con il suo migliore amico, Tyler, considerato sia nel libro che nel film come uno “spaccone guastafeste” di poco rispetto. Tyler è colui che avvia la maledizione della licantropia, eredità della famiglia Lockwood, recitando il ruolo dell’essere malvagio che si nutre di cuori umani senza alcun riguardo. Infine, vi è Caroline Forbes, cheerleader presuntuosa e vanitosa, grande amica di Elena nel film e, paradossalmente, sua nemico nel libro poichè invidiosa del suo successo con gli uomini. La povera ragazza, ammaliata e persuasa da Demon, viene successivamente trasformata in vampiro da Katherine, aprendo così, un nuovo capitolo in , ma questa è un’altra storia…
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES… Literary adaptation
The story is composed of various events which interlace, creating a single big fact. Every character has a peculiarity and a background that make him unique and essential for a coherent and chronological progress of facts. First of all, because unique female main character, Elena Gilbert. Young, beautiful, politer and desiderd by all boys of the school, Elena is a seventeen-year-old girl who faced a terrible car accident where she lost her parents, remaining in foster care to her aunt Jenna, in the film or Judith in the book, together with her four-year-old sisterr Margaret, replaced by a teenager brother called Jeremy in the audiovisual adaptation. In the film, instead, elena isn’t blonde, blue eyes and angelic face like the writer tells us in the book, she is played by Nina Dobrev, a provocative Hungarian with dark hair, dark eyes and extremely sexy. The turning point of the story is her meeting with the fascinating Stefan Salvatore, a 145-year-old vampire with the appearance of a secondary-school student, moved to Fell’s Church or Mystic Falls in the film, pushed by the strong desire to know Elena, perfect double of his historical love, Katherine Pierce. Katherine, although appears at the end of the first TV season as well as in the third book of The Vampire Diaries, is fundamental because in 1864 she trasformed into vampires Stefan and his brother Demon. These last characters live in constant competition before for Katherine and them for the young Elena, her doppelganger. Elena, however, meets Stefan and Demon, after the end of a sweet love story with matt Donovan, who reflects perfectly the original description made by Lisa Smith in the book: blonde, blue eyes, candid and athletic. Matt is in love with Elena and for this reason he accepts all her choices like her engagement with Stefan. Matt is sportsman and he shares his passion with his best friend, Tyler, considered both in the book and in the film like a braggart. Tyler starts the lycantrophy malediction, inheritance of Lockwood family and plays the role of an evil being that wats human hearts thouthless. Finally, there is Caroline Forbes, conceited and vain cheerleader, friend of Elena in the film and, paradoxically, her enemy in the book because she is very popular with men. The poor girl, bewitched and persuaded by Demon, is transformed afterwards into a vampire by Katherine, but, this is another story…
